EXPLORE / ROOM FOR THE UNEXPECTED

What if we took
another path?

Some ideas go beyond the task of the day. Here, we give them a first object, a question to test and a way to find out whether the idea holds up.

PROTOTYPE IDEA

The workstation that connects
what the hands do and the software.

A label, a photo, a measurement or a note taken in the workshop. What if the first entry were made as close to the work as possible, with an easy retake when the capture is poor?

  • First small versionAn authorized capture, an extracted field, a record to review.
  • What we put to the testLighting, unreadable reference, no connection, varied formats.
  • What would move it forwardTry it with real operators and compare with the current data entry.
COMPARISON IDEA

Swap the engine.
Keep the work.

The same small task, the same examples, two different models. See what improves, what breaks and what the change costs.

  • First small versionA common input and output format, a collection of reference cases.
  • What we put to the testA format followed less often, a new slowness, an incompatible license.
  • What would move it forwardA comparison that can be replayed on the task, not a general ranking of models.
SPECIALIZATION IDEA

A small intelligence.
A task of its own.

What if a modest model, adapted to a specific task, did a useful job close to the data? Not replacing all models: giving a place to the one that is enough.

  • First small versionA business category or a response format, with authorized examples.
  • What we put to the testGood memorization of the examples, but a poor answer to new cases.
  • What would move it forwardCompare simple rules, an unadapted model and a trained model, on held-out examples.
These ideas are invitations to experiment. Existing achievements are presented separately in the lab’s objects.

Saphan / APPLIED RESEARCH

Explore a capability.
Link it to your use.

Agents, learning and local systems: some questions call for a prototype before an integration can be defined. We keep this exploratory work separate from services whose scope is already established.

The goal of the first trial, its means and the decision criteria are agreed together.
